My Decision to Become a Counselor

Although I come from a family of educators, my Senior AP English teacher is the one who inspired me to become an educator. She not only taught us about language and literature, but she also became a confidant and, later in life, a friend. Through my experience with her and the educators in my family, as well as my time in the classroom, I have learned firsthand the lifelong impact a teacher can have on his/her students.

Following in the footsteps of my English teacher and the educators in my family, I strive to develop the same type of relationships with the students in my classes that my Senior AP English teacher developed with me. As a school counselor, I aspire to move beyond the classroom, becoming a confidant and creating a reliable support system for students throughout our school.

  1. I too was inspired by a teacher that I had in high school to become an educator. I still keep in touch with her and look to her for guidance. I hope to be half the inspirtation to one of my students that she was to me. I think that as counselors, we will be in the right position to suuport students both emotionally and academically.
